Benjamin Reichelt is a PhD student in MIT’s physics program who is studying high energy density plasma physics in Richard Petrasso’s group. He is interested in many different aspects of this field, especially within the context of achieving ignition in inertial confinement fusion. In the course of his PhD work, Ben has worked closely with scientists from Los Alamos, Livermore, and Rochester’s LLE to develop models, analyze data, and design experiments. Ben obtained his bachelor degrees in physics and electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico, which is where he first began working in the field of plasma physics by designing a microwave interferometer to measure plasma density in UNM’s HelCat experiment.
