The PSFC offers 60-minute tours of our Albany Street facility to students of all ages, the public, and affiliated professionals. Led by MIT students and staff, tours include a plasma and magnet demonstration, a view into our lab spaces, and discussions about how fusion power can contribute to a carbon emissions-free future. Tours run weekly on Thursday mornings at 11:00AM, and may be reserved for groups of 5-30 people. Smaller groups are encouraged to attend a bi-annual open house, but may request a Thursday tour pending availability. Tours are currently at capacity for the spring and summer due to high demand. Reservations for fall tours is now open.
Due to the high volume of requests, we are unable to accommodate every tour request received, and priority is given to students and researchers/industry professionals. We host bi-annual open houses in February and July so that individuals and smaller family groups can visit and learn more about the exciting science happening at the PSFC. Our next open house will be in February, 2025. Registration will open in January.
The MIT PSFC spin-off company Commonwealth Fusion Systems recently broke ground on their facility in Devens, MA, where the SPARC device will be constructed. Although we are proud to be CFS's largest research partner, the PSFC is not involved with scheduling visits or tours of the Devens facility, and CFS does not have a formal tour program. If you are interested in learning more about SPARC and the Devens site, please reach out to Jennifer Ganten.
