Astrophysical phenomena at extreme conditions have traditionally been studied through observations, theoretical modeling, and numerical simulations. The advent of high-intensity, high-energy lasers makes it possible, with laboratory experiments, to validate and complement such studies. Significant progress has recently been achieved in a series of experiments that advance our understanding of, and provide important insight into, many interesting fundamental astrophysical phenomena. In this talk, we will discuss the physics and methodology for connecting laboratory experiments to astrophysical phenomena, highlighting several important experiments that have been the subject of recent publications.
