This talk will focus on the development and application of solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to elucidate the structure and dynamics of biological macromolecules, especially membrane proteins. This research, taking place at the Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory (FBML), spans fundamental spectroscopy and has applications to biology, pharmacology, and biomaterials. Highlights from FBML studies of biomedically important viral membrane proteins and energy-rich plant cell walls will be presented.
